10th ‘Most Beautiful Recitation’ Contest finals start Saturday

Dubai – UAE, May 04, 2016: The final tests of the 10th edition of the ‘Most Beautiful Recitation Contest’, a main category of the 13-branch Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA), are to start on Saturday, May 07.

H.E. Ibrahim Mohammed Bu Melha, Head of DIHQA Organising Committee and Adviser to the Ruler of Dubai for Cultural and Humanitarian Affairs, said the six-day finals, to be held at the DIHQA headquarters in Al Mamzar area, will end on Wednesday, May 11.

“The initial qualifying tests saw stiff competition from 323 contestants, including 47 buds or kids, 91 youngsters, 31 young people, along with 107 mosque imams and 47 muezzins.”

Of those only 48 competitors have managed to make it and reach the finals, he added. “These include 10 kids to be tested on Saturday, May 07, as well as 10 youngsters on Sunday, May 08, 10 youth on Monday, May 09, 10 mosque imams on Tuesday, May 10, and eight muezzins on Wednesday, May 11.”

The arbitration committee of the final examinations includes H.E. Sheikh Osama Al Safi, chairman, along with H.E. Sheikh Abdulaziz Hussain Al Hawsani, H.E. Sheikh Yasser Mahmoud Salama, H.E. Sheikh Abdulrazzaq Al Dulaimi, and H.E. Sheikh Faress Abbad as members.

The first sessions of the nationwide contest started in Abu Dhabi on April 23rd when all participants, except muezzins, sat for the examinations. The qualifying tests were then held in Sharjah on April 24th, followed by Dubai on April 25th, Al Ain and Ras Al Khaimah on April 26th, and finally in the emirates of Fujairah, Ajman, and Umm Al Quwain on April 27th.

“As for muezzins from all emirates, they sat for the initial examinations at the Dubai International Holy Quran Award headquarters at Al Mamzar area on April 30th.”

H.E. Bu Melha said aspirant applicants have had a chance to chip in the 1237H/2016 competition over a period of one full month effective from Thursday, March 10 to Sunday, April 10.

“The contest, sponsored H.H. Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, is aimed to discover, encourage, sponsor, qualify and train Quran talents and tuneful voices, mainly young kids, youngsters, youth, along with mosque imams and muezzins.”

Children aging 13 or below can participate in the first category - ‘Quran Buds’ while the second - ‘Quran Youngsters’, is open for 13 to 25 years old participants, the third for ‘Quran Youth’ from 25 years old and below, apart from two other categories for mosque imams and muezzins, he elaborated.

“Applicants had to fill in a special form, available at DIHQA website, to be eligible for participation. They could also get the same by mail, or collect in person at the award headquarters.”

Valuable prizes will be gifted to the first 15 top winners; three contestants in each category, he disclosed. “Appreciation certificates will also be presented to finalists, however.”
